The men behind one of the most popular bands of the past few years released an autobiography of the rock phenomenon on Friday (October 27). Jamie Hewlett and Cass Browne quite literally designed the animated characters of 'Gorillaz' - Hewlett, who is also the co-creator of comic strip Tank Girl, formed Gorillaz with Damon Albarn in 2000. A limited edition of the Gorillaz autobiography, 'Rise of the Ogre', went on sale for one day only on Friday, with Hewlett and Browne on hand to sign copies of the book. They also unveiled a giant banner showing off the iconic artwork of the band characters at London's Royal Festival Hall and Southbank to promote the book. "Yeah it's the history of the animated band from start to finish, so their childhoods their upbringings, how they formed, why they formed, why they split and how they ruled the world," explained Browne of the book. "It's just nice to sort of collect the whole of the Gorillaz world together after all the work we've done on ! the last album, Demon Days, I mean it's been going on sort of 7 years for us so this is a nice way to put everything together in a book and have a proper book out there," added Hewlett, who won 'Designer of the Year' this year. "So it's a way of wrapping it all up, tying up all the loose ends before the next Gorillaz outing, if we have one".
